Meet the Sectors Summit II Co-Hosts, Part 2

OEDIT

Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade

The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) is an office of Governor John W. Hickenlooper and is led by Executive Director Ken Lund.  OEDIT works to advance Colorado’s economy by working with “statewide partners to create a positive business climate that encourages dynamic economic development and sustainable job growth.”  The OEDIT’s focus includes economic development activities, monitoring the state’s economy, small business and entrepreneur support, job creation and retention, and positioning Colorado as a leader in 14 key industries

Did you know that Colorado came in first as the best state for labor supply (Forbes, 2012) and second as the best state to start a business (CNBC, 2013)?  Find out more at the OEDIT website.

CLF

Colorado Legacy Foundation (now the Colorado Education Initiative)

The Colorado Legacy Foundation (CLF), now the Colorado Education Initiative, works with the Colorado Department of Education to, “accelerate bold improvements in student achievement through innovation, collaboration, and capacity building.”  Led by President and CEO Helayne Jones, this dynamic non-profit focuses on K-12 education and works to cultivate “a network of shared innovation, learnings, vision, and ownership among diverse parties, leveraging the power of many, and equipping teachers, leaders, and organizations with the knowledge, resources, tools, guidance, and financial support to drive improvement outcomes.”

CLF was founded in 2007 and influences student outcomes through many avenues, including educational effectiveness, health and wellness to boost academic performance, next generation learning resources, and the Colorado Legacy Schools Initiative.  CLF is also “spearheading a three-year long effort to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for improving STEM education and outcomes in Colorado. In support of Governor John Hickenlooper’s economic development plan for the state, and through the leadership of the state STEM Steering Committee – and with input from hundreds of Coloradans – CLF is developing the Colorado STEM Education Roadmap and Action Plan. This is a two-pronged approach focused on increasing opportunity for Coloradans and talent for Coloradan employers.”

CLF has earned recognition from U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan along with other states looking to emulate CLF’s work.

CDLE

Colorado Department of Labor and Employment

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) has a vision “to protect and promote the integrity and vitality of Colorado’s employment environment.”

Led by Executive Director Ellen Golombek, the CDLE oversees Employment and Training, Unemployment Insurance, the Division of Labor, Oil and Public Safety, Workers’ Compensation, the Industrial Claim Appeals Office, and Labor Market Information. It also houses the staff of the Colorado Workforce Development Council.

The CDLE does so much to maintain the well-being of our state and its residents that it’s impossible to outline everything it offers in just a few paragraphs.  For instance, did you know that the CDLE provides a site called Connecting Colorado that helps match businesses looking for employees with individuals looking for employment?

Visit the CDLE website to learn more.

We are so excited to work with all of our wonderful co-hosts to leverage Colorado’s sector partnerships to ensure industry-driven talent pipeline at the Sectors Summit II: Growing the Talent Pipeline.  It’s coming May 19-21 to the Denver Marriott Tech Center.  Find out more and register here.
